Ben Hogan is a magna cum laude graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he earned his bachelor’s degrees in Jazz Studies and Arts Management. He earned his master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Louisville, where he studied drum set with Jason Tiemann and Mike Hyman, vibraphone with Dick Sisto, and performed with Rufus Reid and Sean Jones. Additionally, he has studied Brazilian drum set and percussion with Leander Motta at the Universidade de Brasília (Brasília, Brazil) and Tabla and Indian Rhythm with Hindole Majumdar.


    An active and versatile drummer, percussionist, and educator, Hogan blends his background in western percussion and drum set with his interest and study of world percussion. Creating a unique sound, he draws from an array of rhythms, concepts, and instruments (such as pandeiro and cajón) into his playing forging a distinctive individual style. As an educator, Hogan has previously been on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, has taught at the UWGB Summer Music Camps, Music for the Sake of Music (Green Bay, WI), and White House of Music (Wauwatosa, WI), and has done educational residencies and masterclasses throughout the region.


    Hogan is an in demand performer in a diverse array of playing situations including jazz, rock, Brazilian choro, gypsy jazz, free improvisation, and musicals. He appears on two 2016 releases: A Mandolin Journey by the Carlo Aonzo Trio (Italy) and Contrafacts by Anderson Pessoa (Brazil).
